SONIC BRANDING
& CONTENT CREATION
AMSTERDAM MUSEUM
Creating an audio tour for a museum starts with recording clear and engaging narration in soundproof conditions. The recordings are then carefully edited to remove any noise and add special effects. Finally, the polished audio tour is reviewed and synced with the museum exhibits for a seamless visitor experience.
Manahahtáanung or Nieuw Amsterdam?
Words by Amsterdam Museum
The reason for the collaboration and the exhibition is that 2024 marks 400 years since the Dutch arrived at the mouth of the Hudson in America to establish a colony.
After the English conquered this colony from the Dutch in 1664, the settlement grew over the centuries into the city of New York. The Dutch invasion and decades-long colonization in this area had significant consequences for the Indigenous population living in the region in the 17th century, on the island they called Manahahtáanung.
They lost their land and became victims of introduced diseases, wars, and loss of their means of subsistence. Colonists deliberately made it impossible for Indigenous peoples to maintain their own way of life and culture. At the same time, there has always been resistance from the Indigenous communities, continuing to this day.
HOUSE OF VINEYARD
Words by Amsterdam Museum
House of Vineyard was founded in 2014 by 'Mother' Amber Vineyard. This internationally recognized ballroom house consists of about thirty members and continues to grow. Together with 'Father' Elly Vineyard, they have found a chosen family in each other. Since its founding, House of Vineyard has had a significant impact on ballroom culture.
The house fosters community building, provides educational opportunities, and challenges conventions both within and outside the ballroom scene. In addition to its substantial contributions to organizing and participating in balls, House of Vineyard facilitates affordable classes and shares its knowledge and values through takeovers at art schools and stages across the country.
Since 2018, House of Vineyard has traveled to South Africa, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and Suriname to support people in creating their own ballroom communities. The house has since expanded to South Africa. This is the first exhibition that House of Vineyard is co-curating as
a collective.
